The apartments are located in a small private community in the heart of Graça. Estrela d’Ouro was originally built in the early twentieth century for the employees of a chocolate cookie factory. The symbol of the community is a five-pointed star, which appears in the mosaic pavements and most beautifully in three traditional azulejo tile murals on the walls of the houses.

The family who founded the factory and built the neighbourhood had their residence in the mansion behind the big gate at the center of the community. Today the mansion and the surrounding gardens serve as a home for elderly women, adding to the calm, residential atmosphere. Staying here offers both a variety of sights within a short walking distance and the feeling of living in a small village in the middle of a bustling city.

Graça – Lisbon on a hilltop

The wider neighbourhood of Graça stretches across the top of one of Lisbon’s seven hills, only a short downhill walk from the city center and one hilltop away from the castle. Just a short walk up from the apartments you will find one of the most breathtaking viewpoints in the city, the Miradouro da Nossa Senhora do Monte, and the famous tram 28 stops just around the corner.

Other attractions in the immediate area include the National Pantheon, the São Vicente de Fora monastery and the Feira da Ladra flea market, held twice a week. After a day of exploring, you can come back to the quiet streets of Graça and enjoy the lights of Lisbon from above.
